Christal Blessin grew up along the coastal mountain range of Northern California.  Being surrounded by the abundance of farm produce and family gardens profoundly influenced her life.  Learning how to grow, cook and preserve food was a daily and family adventure.  Today, her life is centered on the same things.  She began cooking at age 8.  Years later, earning a degree in horticulture from the University of Hawaii, Christal found herself working as a designer for interior plantscape companies in Phoenix, throughout the 1980’s and early 1990’s.  Passionate about teaching plant care and design lead her to authoring many articles for national and international horticulture publications, including the Farmer’s Almanac.  She launched a culinary business venture in the 1990’s, with a coffeehouse and bistro, featuring her own creative soups, sandwiches and salads.

Today, her time and talents are focused on her company, Kitchen and Garden Catering, along with authoring a dynamic blog and Facebook page.  Her reputation as a chef is founded on her good, simple food, elevated to a memorable experience.  Clients often ask,” How do you know how to combine those ingredients?”  With both experience and creativity on her side, she achieves the exquisite balance of fine flavors with organic, chemical free and farm sourced ingredients.  Her blog and classes teach techniques, and deliver inspiration for achieving classic, heritage-style recipes and gardens, for which she is known.
